Can you please tell us who you are, and a little bit about yourself?
I’m Portia, a British model & creative. I’ve been living in Aotearoa for 4 years now.
What do you think has had the most profound influence on shaping the woman you are today?
It would have to motherhood. No one could tell me shit after that haha! I laboured the whole thing for 10 hours on two paracetamol because my nurse didn’t think I was in active labour. Then out popped a baby!
I’ve always known women are powerful but after that I felt unstoppable. I tapped into warrior state and it kind of stays with you afterwards.
How has motherhood changed your relationship with your body?
I have always been mindful of the size of my body because of my job I suppose. I’ve always have a healthy relationship with food but watching my body change so much in two years I had a new appreciation for this vessel I’m in. I have watched it become strong again. Stronger than before.
Who is your muse? and why?
Women in athletics are generally my muses. I’m an active person so I’m inspired by that.
Thea Lafond, from Dominica (the Caribbean island I’m from) took home the first ever gold medal in the triple high jump at Paris 2024 this year so my family have been celebrating that win! I’m obsessed with Simone Biles at the moment too. Watching her performance makes so me happy that our next generation have these icons to look up to.
When do you feel most at peace with yourself?
Always in nature, I’m someone that enjoys a lot of time alone and this is where I recharge.
OHEN is about giving women a little luxury everyday, how do you take care of mind, body and soul?
I’ve been training so much and keeping it varied. My mind is so much better with decision making when I am. I'm actively slotting self care days into my month to avoid burnout.
Can you tell us a bit about your creative process?
I have my most creative thoughts when I’m walking, I have so many in a day. I think they are calling it ‘popcorn brain’ in Tiktok at the moment. I think my superpower is can achieve a lot when I’ve had a physical release. The act of moving my body. The gym or running helps my creative process and execution.
What collaborations do you find the most inspiring?
Collaborations around black culture, more specifically Black British culture as it speaks to my experience. Any space that amplifies marginalised communities I feel extremely passionate about.
Are there any brands or creatives you'd love to work with?
There are some amazing photographers I admire. I’d love to work with Nadine Ijewere one day, her work definitely inspires my channel. I’d love to creative Daniel Regan ( based out of LA- love his work) and shoot for Nicholas Daley.
