MILLY HEWAT WALL

Creative Agency Director & Mother to Coco

MILLY HEWAT WALL

Can you please tell us who you are, and a little bit about yourself?
I'm Milly, I have a creative communications agency, Someday Studios. I have a three-year-old daughter, Coco whom I adore. I am a major OHEN fan. I love art, I love to shop (mostly) second hand, unless its kiwi designers. Obsessed with pasta, dry gin martinis and have an unnecessarily large collection of shoes that I hardly ever wear.

What do you think has had the most profound influence on shaping the woman you are today?

I think the people around me are what have shaped me, there are always outside influences, like who you dream of being when you're young and impressionable. Fashion designers, magazine editors, artists, musicians. But organically, its the people you spend a lot of time with that just rub off on you, like osmosis. Spending time in hospitality, retail fashion, working in galleries, the interesting people you spend time with along the way that teach you little things, all those influences have an impact on who you become. Finding friends as I've grown older that I just really gel with, that have the similar interests, and its ironic that my job, (and as an business owner its a big proportion of my life) - is all those interests rolled into one. Which is pretty cool. Now of course being a mother, and a partner, those things really help you figure out who you are - and what its all about - and who you're doing it all for (me and no one else).

How has motherhood changed your relationship with your body?

100 million percent. You can't ignore it. The new bumps, the extra skin, the sags, the tiger marks, the big scar on my lower belly. It definitely takes a bit of getting used to, and I definitely have moments when I feel a bit gross, but then I've produced this amazing little person and that's soooo insane to think about, that helps lift me out of any funk about how I'm feeling about my body.

Who is your muse? and why?
hmmm that's such a hard one. I have many. But latest, is Courtney Love, I used to love her, when I went through my Kurt Cobain era, and its come back around when I saw her at a hotel we were staying at in Ischia recently, and I went down a rabbit hole looking at articles and interviews she's done. And she's just so cool, so comfortable in her own skin, so unapologetic. She's had a lot of work done! But she looks amazing for 59, and has had such a life. She's not going to look back and be like, hmmm I wish I'd done more interesting shit. So I guess my lesson from her is, do more cool shit.

When do you feel most at peace with yourself?
Super boring. But when its just family, and doing something relaxing like cooking and listening to music. I find it really therapeutic. Wish it was doing yoga lol.

OHEN is about giving women a little luxury everyday, how do you take care of mind, body and soul?
This is something I need to do more of. But walking, by myself, not even with headphones listening to something, just walking and letting my mind wander is the ultimate self care for me.

Can you tell us a bit about what you and the team do at Someday? What is the creative process?

We do creative communications, so a lot of it stems from storytelling - in different formats - press, content, events, experiences. The creative process is usually chatting internally about whatever product / service / offering a client needs help with putting out into the world. Where does it sit in the world? who is it for? where and in what moment would someone want to engage with it? That's how we get to the insight that creates that 'aha' moment. Everyone has their own lens on things, so we brainstorm, share ideas, challenge each other, then put pen to paper, test it out and then hope the client loves it too!

What collaborations do you find the most inspiring?
There are SO many collabs. Lots of them are getting a bit boring, especially the big brands like Nike X Jacquemus, Tiffany X Pharell etc, but the most unexpected ones are the best. Fenty Beauty X Mschf's is it ketchup or makeup was lol, especially watching TikToks of influencers opening them. And then the ones that just seem so aligned - Simone Roche X Crocs - just super cool, I want some. Wales Bonner X Adidas for the Jamaican Women's Fifa team. Stirling Ruby and Dior (by Raf Simons). I hope the Emilia Wickstead for Air NZ uniforms will be cool.

Are there any brands or creatives you'd love to work with?
We did an event recently for Ayrburn in QT and I was heavily inspired by this set / event stylist, Omer Gilony. Her work is amazing. With the cost of flowers, more and more people are doing cool things with materials. Laila Gohar! And anything We Are Ona/Dalad Kambhu do is magic.
