Can you please tell us who you are, and a little bit about yourself?
My name is Siposetu but I go by Sisi for short. I am a creative and enthused by fashion and beauty. I am from South Africa and was raised here in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland). I am passionate about pursuing what I love. I like operating in boundless spaces where creativity flows organically and where ideas spring to life. I also love creating with the intent to encourage others to step outside their comfort zones and make some magic happen, because we’re all capable of doing so.
What do you think has had the most profound influence on shaping the woman you are today?
I have been drawn to woman that are unapologetic, teachable, generationally-minded, goal-driven and integral. This has shaped my outlooks on everything that I do and who I am. I sometimes ask myself: What examples am I portraying? Is this substantial? And what am I passing down?
Who is your muse? and why?
I have a long list of women that I look up to. They are all profoundly high-achieving women who share incredible stories about their life journeys. I always enjoy reading up or hearing on real stories before placing #goals on anyone. The trials and challenges faced before the applause is always commendable. The hard journey of reaching goals can sometimes be overlooked so I always try appreciate and honour their journeys. Because of their stories, I have been able to apply a realistic approach when wanting to reach my own personal/work goals. This is why I hold certain women (from all walks of life) with high regard. It’s the “behind the scenes” for me really.
What is one make up item you go without?
I’ve got three products in mind but I’d say my liquid eyeliner. You can never go wrong with a cute winged eyeliner look — it enhances my eye shape and makes me look somewhat awake (lol).
How has your style or makeup routine changed over time?
With all the trending makeup routines, I haven’t found myself following many, especially that soft girl aesthetic makeup look. I love a full-coverage base, brown lippy and eyelash extensions. I have stuck with this for 2 years now.
Is there a product you initially underestimated but now swear by?
The Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base all-in-one primer and moisturiser. I never quite understood the hype until I mastered the right skincare products to use before applying this product in prep for my makeup application.
Are there any brands you'd love to work with?
I would love to work with local brands but as of lately, I’ve been drawn to working with brands outside of New Zealand. I am after growth and a good challenge. Something out of my usual.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself through your work?
I love independence but sometimes forget to ask for help. Help with drawing up concepts, finding the right resources and bringing ideas to life. Some things just require more hands and minds to make it happen.
What role does underwear play in creating outfits and impacting your style?
As it’s now getting warmer, I love popping on a tshirt and some comfortable pants — keeping it minimal and simple. But sometimes, I like popping on a jacket with some necklaces while showing a bit of lingerie lace (bra) to add texture and dimension.
What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in finding the right bras or underwear, and how do you choose pieces that balance comfort and style?
I used to think I was a certain bra size until I was measured. I didn’t know that you can get your band size measured too. The challenge prior to that was wearing bras that fit my chest but my bras would often feel tight under my arms and back due to the wrong band size. After discovering the right measurements, I’ve worn my bras with confidence and knowing that I won’t feel uncomfortable all throughout the day.
