ALICE ISLES

Fashion Designer & Twin Mum

ALICE ISLES

Could you share a bit about yourself—who you are, what you do, and your biggest loves?

I'm Alice Isles, and I've been working in fashion for nearly 20 years—primarily as a designer but also as a business owner and, more recently, a creative director. My greatest loves are my twin 8-year-old girls, closely followed by my husband Mike and our cat, Chewy.

International Women’s Day is about recognising the diverse accomplishments of women. What’s a part of your identity as a woman or a personal achievement that fills you with pride?

Balancing motherhood and a career has been one of my proudest achievements. Juggling both is incredibly challenging, and while true balance may never exist, having a fulfilling career and being present for my family is something I deeply value.

Which powerful woman comes to mind when you think about what IWD stands for, and why?

When I ran my own business, I partnered with one of my best friends. She was the yin to my yang—grounding me, pushing me, and teaching me invaluable lessons about myself. We navigated incredible highs and tough lows, and through it all, she remained a rock, a light, and an endless source of fun. What makes her powerful is that she doesn’t even realise it. That partnership and friendship embodied the strength and connection that IWD celebrates.

What do you think is the unique superpower that women possess?

Empathy. The women I surround myself with have an incredible ability to understand, support, and uplift those around them. Emotional intelligence is an underrated yet powerful force.

How do you use fashion as a tool for storytelling and empowerment, especially in challenging traditional narratives around body image?

Fashion should never be taken too seriously. When we approach it with a sense of fun and self-expression, it becomes a powerful tool for confidence. Our style evolves with us, reflecting who we are and who we aspire to be.

One thing we admire about you is the way you advocate for and support other women. Why is this so important to you, particularly in an industry that often places women in competition?

I thrive on connecting with people and fostering meaningful relationships. Early in my career, I was surrounded by incredible female mentors in Sydney who shaped my perspective and encouraged my growth. I hope that I get to pay that forward— offering guidance, and creating opportunities for women to thrive.

As a mother to twin girls, what do you hope for them in a world that still has a way to go in achieving equality?

I want them to own their stories, embrace their individuality, and never feel confined by societal expectations. My hope is that they feel empowered to define their own paths, confident in who they are, and unshaken by external pressures.
