Can you please introduce yourself in one sentence?
I am a mother of two daughters and a goldsmith/jeweller
What drives you, and what’s your purpose for doing what you do?
With jewellery it is an infatuation with the materials and the process. The nurturing of an idea to a material reality. It's quite a maternal energy actually.
I’ve also started working on a fine arts project that began with a feeling of total unease and an inability to process how I was feeling. The act of learning new materials, experimenting, having success and inevitable failures is life affirming.
Has your career/craft unfolded how you thought it would? What has been most surprising?
The transition to motherhood has generated an even bigger drive to create - for my children and to retain a sense of self. There is no greater compass than a child, they clarify my priorities. Parenthood has led me to have greater faith in my decisions creatively and personally.
What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt in your (craft) journey?
That your best work is always tomorrow
When have you been the most brave, personally or professionally?
Enduring the long natural births of both my babies. In particular my youngest as I went through the pregnancy and birth on my own.
What designers/artists/creators/makers are you most inspired by and why?
A couple of girlfriends and I recently started a book club. Our first book was Faith Hope and Carnage by Nick Cave and Sean O’Hagan. Cave explains the creative process in a very dark, lyrical way. I felt a real affiliation with this book. I also love Roslyn Orlandos poetry book Ekhō and the surrealist poems of Philip Lamantia.
Where is your happy place?
My studio and cuddling my girls in bed.
